Travel Tips Before You Leave the USA for Tanzania

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable safari experience, please keep the following in mind:
Upon your arrival in Tanzania, you will be met by a representative from Breathe Tanzania Safari, who will be waiting for you in the arrivals area holding a signboard displaying your name.

  • We recommend bringing a soft-sided duffel bag instead of a hard suitcase, as it is easier to transport on safari vehicles and small domestic flights.
  • Domestic flight luggage allowance: Most safari flights within Tanzania allow 15 kg (33 lbs) per person, including carry-on luggage. Soft bags are required.
  • Pack lightweight clothing in neutral colours, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light jacket for cool mornings and evenings.
  • Bring a small daypack for your daily essentials during game drives and excursions.
  • Carry your passport, visa, travel insurance documents, and any personal medications. A Tanzanian visa can also be obtained upon arrival at the airport.
  • Bring a universal travel adapter, a camera with extra batteries, chargers or memory cards, and a power bank for charging your devices while travelling.
  • Pack insect repellent and a reusable water bottle to help you stay comfortable and hydrated throughout your safari.
  • If your itinerary includes Zanzibar or lodges with swimming pools, don’t forget to pack a swimsuit.
  • We recommend bringing new, clean US dollar bills (issued from 2013 onwards). Older, torn, marked, or damaged notes may not be accepted by banks or businesses in Tanzania. It’s also helpful to carry some small denominations for tips and personal purchases.
  • Laundry service is available at most lodges and hotels during your safari (additional charges may apply unless otherwise stated), so there’s no need to overpack.
  • Most safari lodges provide toiletries, towels, bed linen, and hair dryers for your convenience.
  • If you have any dietary requirements, allergies, or medical conditions, please let us know before your arrival so we can make the necessary arrangements.
  • Follow your guide’s instructions at all times, especially during game drives, walking safaris, and wildlife viewing activities.
  • Respect local cultures and always ask for permission before photographing people.
  • Stay hydrated, relax, and enjoy Tanzania’s incredible wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and rich cultural experiences.

We look forward to welcoming you to Tanzania.
